DAY 1 // 1969 MILES
Our day started early. The church bus left the building at 5am by our personal driver, David Schow. Mark Pugh also met us at 5am and led the group in prayer. We arrived at the airport, got through security and was ready to go. We flew from Nashville to Phoenix, (we waved at Albuquerque when we flew over it). We then boarded a flight that would take us from Phoenix to Albuquerque (there are no easy flights to Albuquerque from Nashville). We touched down a little after 12 pm, grabbed our rental vehicles and headed to lunch. We noticed an issue with one of the tires on the van which made us return to the airport and switch the van out. That put us a little bit delayed, but eventually we were on the road headed to Waterflow, NM via US Hwy 550 and US Hwy 64. These highways cut through the desert of NM and offer some awesome views. The desert of NM may not sound all that entertaining but seeing the wide open land where you can see for miles and miles is pretty cool, especially to think how people traveled these areas on horses and wagons.
We arrived at Hogback church of Christ around 7:45pm. We were able to check out the church, bunkhouse and what all projects that were needing to be done. After looking at everything and trying to come up with a plan, we regrouped and had supper & got everyone situated with where they needed to be and it was lights out!
We are all very tired and most of us were up by 4am this morning and at the time of this post, it is 12:03am. Most were in their areas ready for bed by 11:30 - so we’ve had a long day! The weather is great so far, there is a nice breeze (about 10-20mph) and temps are around 90 but humidity is low! The best thing so far: no cicadas!
We are all looking forward to this week and will see you soon!
