DAY 4 // Gratitude
Today was a day of gratitude. Once breakfast was over, we started off on our trek up The Hogback mountain led by David (a member of the church at Hogback). We were thankful for his willingness to come back this morning and lead us up the mountain. Although, we did not summit the mountain, we were able to see some great views!
Once back down, we finished up the projects that we have been working on this week. These included the last finishing touches on the stairs, bathhouse repair, taking away old appliances and trash, finishing the painting work at the home on the reservation, and a few other smaller projects. The owner of the home was so thankful for everything we did at the home and was very appreciative of all the work we have done this week. He even came outside and played basketball with some of the youth.
Others continued to express their gratitude with our group and was very pleased with everything that we did.
One group stopped by the Hogback Trading Post across from the church. When we went in, the owner asked us where we were from, what we were doing here, etc. and we told him we were working with the church of Christ at Hogback and helping out some of the members. He was very thankful that we were there doing that work. He said that a lot of the Navajo people do not have the money to work on their homes and by us being there was a huge blessing to them. He said it was great to see so many young people having the heart of a servant and was just very appreciative of our work. This man does not attend the church and we have never met him but hopefully we made an impact and something comes of that.
We also learned a lot about the area and the people of the Navajo Nation during and after dinner. It was great conversations and great fellowship. The Bible study tonight was split between women and men. The men were led by John Green and the ladies were led by Jennifer Green with the help of some youth girls.
After the class, we sat around and talked more and enjoyed the evening. We are thankful for all of the connections and friendships that were made so far this week and we look forward to see what is in store for us tomorrow!
