DAY 5 // We don’t say goodbye.
This morning, we split up into 2 groups. One group headed to ShipRock church of Christ and the other group stayed at Hogback church of Christ for Bible class and Sunday morning worship. Not counting us, there were around 10-12 present for worship services at each church building. Once that was concluded, we all met for lunch which was prepared for us by those from ShipRock and Hogback, which included frybread and toppings of meat, beans, tomatoes, and other vegetables. It was VERY good!
The rest of the afternoon, many of us sat around and talked with some of the members. As John Green put it: this is something we normally do at home but out here, it just happens and its easy conversation.
In the evening, we all headed over to ShipRock for a “Rez Singing” and a meal together. We enjoyed that meal and enjoyed talking to other members of the church. Soon after that, we all joined in for singing. We sang many songs but more interesting was the song led by Hunter. He worked with a Navajo man by the name of David and learned how to sing Jesus Loves Me in the Navajo language. He led us in that song and we also sang Amazing Grace in Navajo (led by David). Once that concluded we all gathered outside to give the kids some gift bags that had several toys and games in each bag.
One phrase that stuck out to me personally was said to me. When we were all getting ready to leave, we said our “goodbyes” but he told me he doesn’t say goodbye…he says, “see you later.”
We had a great time on this trip and a lot of good was done to help those out here on the reservation and we made many friendships that we pray do not end and that we can soon return and do more good works and lead others to know Jesus.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. - Matthew 28 : 19-30
